Walk out to Phil Collins blaring through the smoky haze, an entourage marching behind you and your dad’s belt strung over your shoulder. It’s just you and your opponent, 3 x 2minute rounds of Charity Boxing awaits… Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face!
The Winterlude Charity Fight Night is back again this July for its 4th Instalment and this year the UCSA has teamed up with the Mental Health Foundation of NZ.
Over the last three years 54 UC students have dug deep and put their bodies on the line to raise over $50,000 for 24 separate Charities. The event has sold 1500 tickets and all the action has been livestreamed on Facebook to over 30,000 people. It has such extreme potential and we know we can do even more to support our fighters and raise even more for a good cause.
Boxing is one of the toughest and loneliest sports in the world, but a few rounds in the ring is nothing compared to the issue of Mental Health.
Nearly 50% of New Zealanders will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime, and they should not face it on their own. Your donation will help the Mental Health Foundation of NZ provide individuals, workplaces, schools, universities and communities with the tools they need to build positive mental health and wellbeing.
On top of your donations to Mental Health NZ, we will also contribute a percentage of ticket sales to charity, and host a number of pop up events on campus before fight night that raise awareness for the cause.
